Customer experience management(CEM) in mobile networks is a relatively new concept and has only recently started to gain momentum. With the growing use of smartphones, mobile applications, changing subscriber expectations, and networks migrating from 3G to 4G, the perception of network quality is undergoing a major shift. While mobile operators could earlier manage customer experience by simply pulling a few network levers for improving voice calls, managing the quality of experience in the mobile data era is a multi-faceted challenge. Mahindra Comviva’s Real-time Analytics for Customer Experience (RACE) provides a bird’s eye view of the subscriber mobile data browsing experience. RACE is aimed at demystifying the nature of mobile broadband performance. This is a crowd-sourced method of understanding the network by propagating a mobile application to “volunteers” who would allow the application access to their Internet connections for testing. The solution employs the use of a small mobile application, installed in the volunteers’ smartphone which will collect vital information from the device. Measuring broadband performance goes far beyond looking at speed (or “throughput”) alone. The testing here reflects this, and the study has examined latency, packet loss, file download time, bandwidth speeds and quality of experience.
