Vineet Nayyar

Vineet Nayyar

Vineet Nayyar is a Director at Mahindra Comviva and Vice Chairman at Tech Mahindra.

An accomplished leader, he has led several organizations across industries, creating high performance teams and successful businesses. In a career spanning over 40 years, Vineet has worked with the Government of India, international multilateral agencies and in the corporate sector (both public and private).

He started his career with the Indian Administrative Service and held a series of senior positions, including that of a District Magistrate, Secretary – Agriculture & Rural Development for the Government of Haryana and Director, Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India.
He also worked with the World Bank for over 10 years in a series of senior assignments, including successive terms as the Chief for the Energy, Infrastructure and the Finance Divisions for East Asia and Pacific.

Vineet was also the founding Chairman and Managing Director of the state-owned Gas Authority of India and has served as the Managing Director of HCL Corporation Ltd., and as the Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies Ltd. He was also a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of HCL Perot Systems. He received a master’s degree in development economics from Williams College, Massachusetts.

In addition to his responsibilities at Tech Mahindra, Vineet’s principal directorships include his serving as a director on the boards of Venturbay Consultants Private Limited, Mahindra Logisoft Business Solutions Limited, Tech Mahindra (Thailand) Limited, Tech Mahindra (Beijing) IT services Limited, Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited, Mahindra United World College of India, Kotak Mahindra Old Mutual Life Insurance Limited, The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited, Greatship (India) Ltd, Vidya Investments Private Limited, Vidya Education Investment Private Limited, Maurya Education Company Private Limited, Tech Mahindra (Americas) Inc, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Essel Social Welfare Foundation (formerly-HPS Social Welfare Foundation).

He serves as Chairman of Supervisory Board of Tech Mahindra GmbH. He is also a trustee of Vidya Education Foundation, Cathedral Vidya Trust and Mahindra Education Foundation.

Vineet was awarded the Ernst and Young ‘Entrepreneur of the year [Manager]’ for the year 2013.

Manoranjan 'Mao' Mohapatra

Manoranjan ‘Mao’ Mohapatra is Mahindra Comviva’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Mao’s career has been dedicated to the development and deployment of innovative software communications solutions in rapidly growing markets, transforming high potential businesses into true world-beating organizations. His track record for enabling innovation, his deep knowledge of telecom related technology and his wealth of experience in a range of operational and marketing roles provide a strong leadership base from which to enhance Mahindra Comviva’s position as the leading provider of integrated VAS solutions in emerging markets globally.

Prior to joining Mahindra Comviva, Mao was President and COO at Aricent, where he enjoyed a 15 year career and was instrumental in building the company from a relative start up to a globally recognized brand, with over US$300 million in revenues. At Aricent, Mao led teams in the areas of R&D, product management, operations, and sales and marketing, gaining hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the software and communications industries and honing his leadership talent.

Before moving to Aricent, Mao was a core member of the Center for Development of Telematics (CDOT), where he made a significant contribution to research and development in telecom switching, and where he began his career.

Mao holds a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Ulhas Narayan Yargop

Ulhas N. Yargop is a Non-Executive Director of the Company. Ulhas joined the Mahindra & Mahindra Group in 1992 as General Manager – Corporate Planning. He later moved to the Automotive Sector as General Manager – product planning, and was responsible for the product management function for automotive products. In 1994, he was appointed as General Manager, Mahindra-Ford Project, and led the Mahindra & Mahindra team working on the joint venture project with Ford Motor Company. In 1996, he was appointed as Treasurer and assumed responsibility for Corporate Finance. Since 1999, Ulhas has been President – Telecom & Software Sector and a member of the Group Management Board.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and an MBA degree from the Harvard Business School.

Jagdish Mitra

Jagdish Mitra is a Non-Executive Director at Mahindra Comviva and Heads the Strategy for Tech Mahindra and along with it responsible for new growth businesses at Tech Mahindra. He served as the CEO of CanvasM, the mobility unit of Tech Mahindra founded in 2006 as a joint venture with Motorola and was heading the Large Deals Business of TechM before taking up this role.

Jagdish has over 20 years of IT industry experience in the areas of business development and marketing in the global information services market. He has handled several responsibilities within Tech Mahindra for the last 20 years, including opening up new markets like North America, Middle East and Asia along with the Global Marketing function and has been actively involved in building several strategic business relationships with key accounts for Tech Mahindra worldwide.

Jagdish holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Applications from Birla Institute of Technology and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of London.

CP Gurnani

CP Gurnani (popularly known as ‘CP’ within his peer group) is a Non-Executive Director at Mahindra Comviva and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tech Mahindra.

CP also played a pivotal role in the three-year transformational journey of Mahindra Satyam and spearheaded the company’s eventual merger with Tech Mahindra.

An accomplished business leader with extensive experience in international business development, start-ups and turnarounds, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, CP in many ways led Tech Mahindra’s transformation journey, where he contributed significantly to the company’s strategy and philosophy.

His inimitable style of leadership, combined with his sharp focus on customer experience, helped Mahindra Satyam and Tech Mahindra emerge as one of the leading providers in their respective competencies – IT Services and Telecom Solutions to the global telecom ecosystem.

In a career spanning 32 years, he has held several leading positions with HCL Hewlett Packard Limited, Perot Systems (India) Limited and HCL Corporation Ltd. An outstanding people’s manager, CP has an entrepreneurial style of management that is a blend of enthusiasm and dynamism. He tends to focus on people’s strengths to bring out the best in them. ‘Work hard and play hard’ is his motto and he applies it to all aspects of his life with complete passion.

A chemical engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, he is a distinguished and active alumnus of the Institute.

CP has been chosen as the Ernst and Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year [Manager]’, CNBC Asia’s ‘India Business Leader of the Year’ and Dataquest ‘IT person of the Year’ – for the year 2013.

Devendra Khanna

As Non-Executive Director of Mahindra Comviva and Corporate Director, Finance (Telecom and Retail) of the Bharti Group, Devendra is mainly responsible for corporate planning and business reviews, financial reporting, internal assurance and tax governance for all the businesses of the Bharti group. Deven joined Bharti Airtel in 2004 as the Group Financial Controller and spearheaded financial reporting, business planning & analysis, revenue assurance, taxation, risk controls and compliances and strategic financial projects. Deven has nearly 23 years of experience of which, 17 years was with the Triveni Group. He spearheaded group’s public offerings, M&A and corporate restructuring initiatives. Deven is a Commerce graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Harjeet Kohli

Harjeet leads the corporate finance, capital structure & equity raising, currency and
interest risk management, investments management, and stakeholders’ management – across ratings, debt & equity investors for Bharti group, on a global basis, and sponsors the business partnership for all non-telecom businesses, as CFO of emerging businesses, Bharti Group.

He has over 19 years of work experience as a business and finance professional as also a product specialist across equity, financing and markets space, both as a banker to large corporates as also as an issuer / corporate.

Harjeet serves as a director on the boards of Bharti Realty Limited and Beetel Teletech Limited.

Over the past 9 years with Bharti, key highlights have been leading:

  1. IPO for Bharti Infratel: 10% Listing – market cap ~ 11bn$.
  2. Acquisition of Zain Africa assets with EV 10.7bn$ and equity value 9 bn$.
  3. Multiple Bond Issuances – G3 & others – totaling ~ 6bn$.
  4. USD 1.2 billion private equity investment by Qatar Foundation Endowment (QFE) into Airtel.
  5. Large scale African debt and capital restructuring enabling superior business growth in markets (Sub Saharan & Francophone), bringing in many bilaterals like IFC, FMO, DEG Proparco to finance the African operations.
  6. Host of other private and semi-private deals.

Under his leadership, Bharti Airtel, has won many of the coveted awards across Adam Smith, Finance Asia, ASSET, Treasury Today, Eurofinance, Business World and others.

Prior to joining Bharti group, he had 12 years of corporate & investment banking experience at Citigroup, across business build-outs (SME), product structuring, sales, capital markets, market management. Having played a Trusted Advisor to clients across their organic as well as strategic needs, Harjeet carries strong Strategic & Finance experience across the capital structure with deal list across debt, equity, hybrids in the private and public space.

Rajat Mukherjee

Rajat Mukherjee is currently an Independent Director at Mahindra Comviva and a partner in the Merger and Acquisition Practice Group at Khaitan & Co. In this capacity, his areas of expertise include acquisitions, joint ventures and cross-border transactions. Prior to his current role, he worked with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP at their New York and Hong Kong offices.

His clientele span several sectors, including media (print and digital), information technology and information technology enabled services, defence, logistics, pharmaceuticals, education and retail. A notable recent transaction was advising the Blackstone Group on its investment in Jagran Prakashan Limited and the subsequent acquisition by Jagran of Naidunia, a Madhya Pradesh daily.

Sunita Umesh

Sunita Umesh is currently an Independent Director at Mahindra Comviva and senior partner at UCC & Associates LLP. In this capacity, her areas of function include conversion of existing Indian GAAP accounts into IFRS compliant ones, the COSO Framework, including framing of policies and procedures and SOX narratives.

Prior to her current role, she worked at AF Fergusons and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. She brings to the table over 25 years of work experience in the field of chartered accountancy. During this time, her areas of expertise included finance, tax, compliance and corporate governance. Other areas of focus included providing audit and consulting services relating to Indian GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP. She also renders consulting and advisory services relating to various other areas like SOX and COSO Framework, corporate risk management, FEMA, company law, expatriate taxation, direct and indirect taxation and transfer pricing

She is a qualified Chartered Accountant, a qualified and licensed Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Information System Auditor. She holds a graduation degree in commerce from Delhi University.

Ambar Sur, Executive Vice President – New Projects

Ambar is the Executive Vice President for new projects at Mahindra Comviva. Ambar combines his deep knowledge of technology with an appreciation of market and business drivers – skills that have enabled him to lead teams that develop winning propositions, delivered in a customer-focused manner. With a strong strategic vision and a keen focus on processes, people, and fault-free product delivery, Ambar has been able to win customer loyalty with leading operators, globally. He has handled various roles within the company including Chief Marketing Officer, Director- EMEA and Vice President – Airtel market unit. Ambar began his 19 year career in Washington DC as a project manager with LCC, a pioneer in wireless voice and data services for the telecom industry, where he set up various networks around the world. Having gained experience of the wireless world, Ambar moved to India to work with BPL Mobile, where he oversaw Network Performance & RF Planning for the company. He later moved to BPL Innovision to establish OyeIndia, the group’s web technology company.

In 2001, Ambar co-founded CellCloud Technologies, where he was a key driver of business growth, building sales of the company’s innovative prepaid solution in India, and helping ensure the company became profitable within a short period. CellCloud merged with Mahindra Comviva in 2002. Ambar has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in the USA and an MS in Telecom from Brooklyn Polytechnic, USA.

Sriram G, Chief Financial Officer

Sriram heads the finance and legal teams at Mahindra Comviva. Sriram combines his deep expertise in finance with experience in financial planning, cost optimisation, mergers & acquisitions, SOX, shared services, ERP implementation and international taxation to empower Mahindra Comviva to gain momentum in its growth trajectory.

Sriram has around 19 years of industry experience and is passionate about processes, tools design in ERP & productivity improvement through metrics in various operational areas.

Prior to joining Mahindra Comviva, he was based at Boston, USA with Patni Americas Inc. as Vice President, heading their Finance operations in North America. Prior to Patni, he was based at Bangalore with Motorola India, heading finance for India software operations, and was also their Company Secretary. He has also worked with teams at Larsen & Toubro (manufacturing) & Sanmar Electronics (telecom industry).

Sriram holds a degree in CA, ICWA and CS.

Sandyp Bhattacharya, Head - Human Resources

Sandyp leads the People Initiatives at Mahindra Comviva; while driving the motto, ‘People Focus for Business Success’. Besides handling HR and management responsibilities, he also guides the Administration team at Mahindra Comviva. Sandyp believes in evolving himself continuously while influencing positive change in a boundary less manner. He likes developing empowered and capable teams; and believes in building strong relationships with internal customers. Sandyp actively promotes the philosophy of ‘Enjoy to Excel’ at Mahindra Comviva.

Prior to joining Mahindra Comviva, Sandyp was part of Aricent Technologies as Head of Corporate HR. He has also handled international and India based HR & Change Management Consulting projects for leading global clients of Satyam Computer Services. Sandyp began his HR career with IPCL-Reliance. He has successfully managed culturally diverse environments in a global scenario, spread across entities and continents; driving transformations both at Strategic and implementation level.

Sandyp has many ‘youngest firsts’ to his credit. At Aricent, while setting up the Corporate HR Function, he became one of the youngest leaders in a truly global role. Still at Aricent, he was one of the youngest professionals to win the CEO’s Global award. Additionally he was among the youngest HR professionals in the industry to occupy a management leadership position, when he became part of Mahindra Comviva’s Apex Leadership Team in 2008. He was presented the ‘HR Leadership’ Award at the Asia Pacific HRM Congress, 2012.

Sandyp loves to read & write; and enjoys movies & music. He holds a Masters degree in (Personnel) Management, from Pune University.
